Impact assessment of airport's peak period Landside traffic, for the local community
Airport: Calgary International airport, Canada.
YYC is surrounded by dense infrastructure, as seen in the aerial image, much of which is residential neighborhood. The citizens were concerned about higher queuing and delays in the vicinity of the airport, that they believed coincided with airport's peak periods. The request for a study was thus raised. A study was called in by the airport to investigate this concern.
A Traffic impact study was conducted to assess the impact of volume of traffic generated on the road network surrounding the airport because of vehicles coming out of the airport with airport's arrival peak period and going into the airport with airport's departure peak period. The study looked at the traffic network surrounding the airport.
Comparative analysis of system performance i.e., delays and queuing, with and without airport traffic, in the duration marked airport's peak periods was thus conducted to evaluate the citizen concern and make appropriate recommendations.
