Engineering support in demonstrating aerodrome's EASA compliance

Airport: Luxembourg Airport, Luxembourg (EU).

Client: Lux-Airport, Aerodrome Operator.

Following the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification, an aerodrome is granted five years to identify and correct all non-compliant infrastructure.

Working very closely with the aerodrome operator towards the aforementioned, the support included combination of actively assisting and autonomously carrying out the following:

  • Reviewing current infrastructure and airside procedures. Identifying the gap to compliance and developing the solution, and follow-through with supporting its implementation towards closing the gap.

  • Developed the technical i.e. engineering proof demonstrating compliance and its supporting documentation.

  • Verified existing airside procedures. Writing new airside procedures as needed. Supporting corresponding infrastructure updates. This also included issuing of NOTAMS.

  • Signage and markign update for all aprons.

  • Within compliance related projects, investigated the infrastructure constraints and opportunities towards Luxembourg Air Rescue's Helicopter apron, towards Final Approach and Takeoff Operations (FATO).

  • Worked in tandem with Safety on all work.

All work incorporated working harmoniously and in close communication with stakeholders, understanding operations and impact of compliance related updates on each, and then developing solutions.

Each non-compliance was thus resolved with analysis, action and results, presented to local governing body, Direction de l'aviation civile (DAC), by the aerodrome operator in ongoing audits, as proof of compliance with EASA regulation 139.
